Abstractics Magazine Issue 004

I have some news I’m excited to share: two of my photographs have been accepted into the next issue of Abstractics — Journal of Abstract and Non-Representational Art, Issue 004.

There’s something special about sending work out for someone else to consider. These are photographs I felt drawn to make, details that caught my attention and asked me to look a little closer. Having them selected through a jury process is encouraging as I continue growing this part of my work.

What brought me back to photography in this way was learning about an ancient ocean beneath the Appalachian Mountains. That curiosity led me to Appalachian salt from J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works. As soon as that salt arrived, I started photographing it—and looking more closely at the land, the water, and what they leave behind.

Now I find myself noticing textures, shapes, and small details I might once have walked past. Sometimes you can recognize what you’re looking at. Other times, the photograph takes you somewhere beyond the familiar. That’s part of what I enjoy—seeing what happens when I give something ordinary a little more attention.

I’ll share more when Issue 004 is available, along with a link so you can see my photographs and explore all the creative work in the journal.
