The Story Behind Deò
Deò—pronounced JAW—is a Scottish Gaelic word meaning breath, the vital spark of life, a ray of light, and vision. An older meaning describes the place where a stream meets the sea.
Deò holds everything I want my photography to carry—light, life, intuitive sight, and the quiet meeting place between what can be seen and what can only be felt.
Since childhood, I’ve been drawn to the things others might pass by—the stories held by the land, the movement of water, and the marks left behind by time.
Some photographs begin close to home, along the creek banks, woods, and fields of West Virginia. Others are found farther away. The place may change, but the way I see it does not.
Through light, intuition, and stillness, I preserve what asks me to stop and pay attention so its story can continue in another place.
