The Story
There is something about the layers.
A small piece of Atlantic shell rests against stones gathered from Middle Island Creek. Its worn ridges and little hollows stand out against the smoother stone beneath it. Fine grains of J.Q. Dickinson salt settle between them, mostly hidden—a quiet connection to the ancient Iapetus Sea.
I brought these pieces together by hand, drawn to the way their different surfaces fit beside one another. In black and white, those details become the story: the curves, the weathered edges, the shadows held between each layer.

This photograph is available in a limited edition of 25, shared across all sizes. Each fine art print is signed and numbered by Becky Nichols. Sizes through 30 × 45 inches are mounted on white styrene; the 40 × 60-inch print is mounted on double-weight mat board.
