The Story
The tree had already fallen.
It was weathered and worn, lying on the ground, but that wasn’t what caught my attention. It was the way its branches were still reaching.
Upward. Outward. As if falling hadn’t changed what they knew how to do.
I stood there looking at it and couldn’t help but think about how easy it is to believe that being brought down means something is over.
But this tree didn’t feel finished.
Even on the ground, it had presence. Its lines still moved. Its branches still reached. There was something almost defiant in the way it continued to take up space.
In black and white, everything else falls away and the shape and texture of the wood become the story.
Still reaching.
Still standing in its own way.
Still here.
