Each Grounding Dùthchas is individually commissioned and created to order. It is formed in distinct layers of red Appalachian clay gathered beside Middle Island Creek, rich soil from the surrounding woods, West Virginia salt drawn from the ancient Iapetus Sea beneath the Appalachian Mountains, sand, and tiny creek-worn stones.
I intuitively arrange these natural elements to create a quiet expression of grounding, steadiness, and belonging. The photographs shown are examples only. No two will ever look alike.
NATURAL MATERIALS
Every Grounding Dùthchas is made with natural, organic materials that have been carefully dried but remain otherwise untreated.
Because these materials are natural, they may subtly settle, shift, fade, or change in color and texture over time. These changes are part of the piece’s continuing relationship with nature and are not considered flaws.
CARE
Dùthchas is a sculptural work of art.
Keep the vessel corked, upright, and indoors in a dry, stable environment. Keep it away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, high humidity, and sudden changes in temperature. Avoid bathrooms, damp areas, and sunny windowsills.
Do not shake the vessel. Clean only the outside with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid moisture around the cork. Handle carefully and keep out of reach of small children and pets.
